Surroundings
Mariahoeve Farm is surrounded by green meadows and is set in the natural lake area of the province of South Holland. One of the lakes is Wijde Aa, a quiet lake bordering on the hamlet of Ofwegen, which is situated halfway between the villages of Hoogmade and Woubrugge.
There are five farms and two windmills in the area, with one windmill being open to the public.
It is a great idea to go and visit the miller.
The many paths give you plenty of opportunity to go cycling and walking in the area. The paths are also perfect for getting introduced to other loyal visitors to our area – the meadow birds. They join the cows and sheep in peat meadow polder Oudendijk during warmer weather.
This ancient area is known to have been described as early as 100 BC. At that time the large and mighty Teutonic tribe of Warns ruled the area. The name of the municipality of Warmond is derived from this tribe name.
Cycling or rambling along the Wijde Aa lake and following the Braassemroute, you can get a good feel of the famous landscape of the Groene Hart (Green Heart) area of Holland. Of course you can also hire our small motor boat to explore the surroundings. The nostalgic and peaceful villages are definitely worth a visit.
